Several milestones have marked the history of this hospital institution. Indeed, the Dominican Sisters in Cameroon, in agreement with the authority of the Diocese of Yaoundé and with the authorization of the Cameroon Ministry of Public Health, wanted to set up a work that would help them meet the health needs of the population. The ultimate aim was to contribute to improving the quality of healthcare provision in Yaoundé and the surrounding area. The initial project saw the light of day on November 03, 2005, under the name “CENTRE DE SANTE DOMINICAIN” (CSD). As soon as it opened, the Center experienced success and exponential growth, far beyond all expectations. The need to develop the structure both structurally and functionally was self-evident. Hence the decision to expand the health center and transform it into a hospital in 2006. The foundation stone for the future hospital was laid by the Spanish Ambassador to Cameroon on April 30, 2006. The Ambassador was accompanied by representatives of the religious, political and traditional authorities, as well as the partners who contributed to financing the hospital. On February 07 2008, the current “CENTRE HOSPITALIER DOMINICAIN SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES” (CHDSMP) was inaugurated.
From the outset, the Catholic Dominican Sisters behind this magnificent work imposed a philosophy of care on the hospital. They sum it up as follows
